The personal effects coverage is best suited for anyone moving abroad who plans to take personal possessions with them.

Personal property refers to items within the home that are not attached to the property. Depending on your personal contents insurance policy, your belongings insurance may include such items as computers, cameras, musical instruments and sports equipment, and keepsakes such as artwork, furs, silver, collectibles, jewelry, and watches.

International personal property policies (also knows as Household Effects policies) are All-Peril policies that provide coverage against but are not limited to fire, theft, vandalism, damage, breakage, and personal liability at no extra charge. Losses are subject to your deductible for unscheduled property. No deductible applies to scheduled property.

Your policy covers your belongings during a move, while traveling, or whilst inside your home abroad.

Like most insurance policies, personal effects insurance covers a specific set of risks. For example, homeowner’s insurance typically covers fire damage, but earthquake damage may be excluded. Also, some policies may be customized with add-ons, so exclusions depend on an individual’s level of coverage.

We recommend you create a personal property inventory and insure all of your personal items accompanying you abroad. This includes unscheduled items such as clothing, bedding, small electronics, as well as an itemized list for scheduled items such as valuables like cameras and computers.

Yes. With our All Risks international personal items insurance, your items are protected if they’re misplaced during a move, while traveling, or at your home abroad.

Transit coverage is an optional add-on. Your personal property is covered in transit if you add Transit & Cargo coverage at the time of purchase or add it midterm to your policy. This insurance protects you against all risks from the time your property leaves your home to the time it arrives at its destination.

You can add Transit & Cargo coverage at any time to your policy with an additional cost. It is important to note that Transit coverage must be added prior to the actual transit occurring and the premium is fully earned.

Transit coverage cannot be removed during the life of the policy. Transit premium is fully earned and can only be removed at the time of policy renewal.

We currently provide belongings insurance for items in commercial storage worldwide, including in the US, but excluding Canada and sanctioned territories.

The key difference between commercial storage and self-storage is access. Although your contents are stored in commercial storage, you do not have direct access to the facility. Conversely, self-storage facilities allow owner access which introduces a broad range of risks to the contents that otherwise would not exist.

Our cover provides both unscheduled and scheduled coverage.

• Unscheduled coverage is non-itemized and for everyday property like clothing, bedding, small electronics and equipment.
• Scheduled coverage is for valuable items like jewelry, computers, laptops, cameras and related equipment, musical instruments, fine arts, silver, fur, oriental rugs, and stamp and coin collection. Remember to include a detailed, itemized list for all Scheduled coverage items.

We require appraisals on scheduled items valued at US$10,000 or more.

You can schedule for any maximum for one item up to US$ 25,000 in value. For any one item that has a higher value, please reach out to our Sales Team.

Yes, please contact Clements for any changes in value of items, any updates to individual appraisals. Your policy should reflect the most up to date value for your items to ensure proper coverage in case of a loss.

• Unscheduled items will have a deductible applied.
• Scheduled items are not subject to any deductibles.

Yes. The policy includes up to US$ 500,000 of coverage free of charge.

We recommend against signing anything that waives your right to hold the shipper accountable for any damage or losses to your personal property. By waiving the shipper’s liability, you may be putting your claim at risk for denial.

Our personal property policy is very flexible. You can add or subtract items from your unscheduled and scheduled coverage at any time. You may be subject to additional charges.

Yes, for any items that are valued at US$ 10,000 or more, we will require an appraisal dated within the last 3 years.

Yes. The policy includes up to US$ 10,000 for necessary medical expenses. The benefit is for an accident that may cause bodily injury to any person who is not insured under your policy specifically. The medical expenses do not provide cover to the insured.

Your policy may be cancelled at any time. However, we do require a written notice. Premiums are pro-rated at the time of cancellation subject to minimum premiums earned (US$ 50.00). However, Transit cover is fully earned, and is not subject to pro-rata return.

If a claim is filed during your policy period, all premiums are fully earned, and no premiums will be returned.
